352, FL (352today.com) – As America celebrates 250 years of independence, Memorial Day is approaching, providing local communities with the opportunity to honor active and fallen service members along with Gold Star families. Volunteer opportunities and commemorations will be taking over the week leading up to Memorial Day. And this is really just the start of North Central Florida participating in our nation’s 250th anniversary; following Memorial Day, there will be more local America 250 events leading up to the Fourth of July.

Memorial Day Flags

  • What: The Historic Evergreen Museum invites friends, family and the community to participate in honoring veterans. Volunteers throughout the community can come together to place fags at the gravesites of fallen service members in preparation of Memorial Day.
  • When: Saturday, May 23 from 9-11 a.m.
  • Where: Historic Evergreen Museum, 401 SE 21 Ave., Gainesville.

Memorial Day Commemoration

  • What: Commemorate fallen service members and Gold Star families at this Memorial Day program. This commemoration will feature a keynote speaker by the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association. The keynote speaker will be followed with ceremonial tributes by Milton Lewis Young Marines and other local military organizations. Music will be performed by the Gainesville Brass Quintet.
  • When: Monday, May 25 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • Where: Historic Evergreen Museum, 401 SE 21 Ave., Gainesville.

Memorial Day Ceremony – A Heritage Remembered

  • What: Marion County and Friends of Marion County Veterans Memorial Park Foundation is holding a ceremony tribute to honor fallen service members. This is a chance for the Marion County community to come together and share a moment in remembrance of service members and Gold Star families.
  • When: Monday, May 25 starting at 9 a.m.
  • Where: Marion County Veterans Memorial Park, 2601 SE Fort King St., Ocala.

  • What: The City of Leesburg and the Tunnels to Towers Foundation are hosting a Memorial Day program of remembrance. This event celebrates America 250, utilizing this moment as a time of pause and reflection. This celebration will feature ceremonial tributes and a performance by King Guys Band.
