MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) says they arrested a man wanted for multiple charges including battery on a law enforcement officer.

They say around midnight on January 14, deputies attempted to stop a driver for only having one working headlight. When the deputy pulled the driver over, they say the driver told him his name was Michael Summers. When the deputy went back to his vehicle to confirm Summers’ identity, they say the man got out of his vehicle and ran away.

They say the deputy caught up with him and used his taser. MCSO says Summers began to “physically resist” and reached for the deputy’s gun. In the process, they say the deputy suffered several punches in the face and head and Summers was able to get away.

While searching the area, deputies found a sunglasses case with methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

On Tuesday, Jan. 16, deputies say they found and arrested Summers near Southeast 52nd Court in Ocala.

The 53-year-old is now charged with:

  • battery on a law enforcement officer
  • depriving an officer means of protection
  • resisting arrest with violence
  • driving with a suspended license as a habitual traffic offender
  • possession of cocaine
  • possession of meth
  • possession of marijuana
  • possession of drug paraphernalia

According to Marion County jail records, Summers was arrested three times in 2022 all for similar charges.

MCSO says Summers is a habitual felony offender who has been booked into the Marion County jail 16 times and convicted of 17 felony offenses in Marion County alone. They say he just got out of state prison in last August.
