OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Growing older can present a unique set of challenges. Personal, social, and healthcare needs can become increasingly demanding. In Marion County, there is a nonprofit organization that is available to help introduce and navigate options for those who are struggling.

Marion Senior Services (MSS) aims to enhance the quality of life for seniors in Ocala and surrounding areas covering nutritional health, non-emergency transportation, home care, Medicare assistance, and more.

March kicked off their National March for Meals Campaign to raise awareness, educate, and gain support in the fight against senior hunger. MSS says that its Meals on Wheels program delivers more than 300 meals and wellness checks to seniors throughout Ocala and Marion County every day, but that’s not enough. MSS says it has over 600 seniors in Marion County on its waitlist.

This Saturday, March 23, MSS will host its first annual Wheels 4 Meals car show event at the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion located at 2232 NE Jacksonville Rd. in Ocala.  The event is from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and is free to attend, although MSS says donations are welcomed.

For anyone who wants to display a vehicle at the event, there is a $20 fee. MSS says all funds raised will benefit its nutrition support programs in hopes of being able to serve more meals to seniors on its waitlist.

There will also be food trucks and vendors as well as prizes.

“Having any number of individuals on our waitlist tells us that there are seniors who are going to bed hungry every day.  Senior hunger is a serious issue in this community,” said MSS Nutrition and Outreach Director Glenda Thomas said in a news release, “We hope that through this fun-filled, family event, we can raise awareness and funding to support more seniors.”

Sponsors for the event include DeLuca Toyota, Gallagher Insurance, JB Golf Carts, Ocala Electric Utility, and many more. 352today’s sister radio stations, Wind-FM and K-Country, will also be present with Wind-FM’s and K-Country’s midday personalities, Scott Chase and Lewis Stokes, both emceeing at the event.

“I’m looking forward to seeing all the classic cars an trying the food from the food trucks. I’m hoping for a bacon food truck,” said Stokes, a self-proclaimed “bacon aficionado.”  “Plus, it’s a great cause to do something for Marion Senior Services’ Meals on Wheels. Sounds like a good combo to me!”

Chase is also excited about being part of this community event. “Wheels For Meals is a great free family event and a way to support Marion Senior Services,” said Chase. “I am happy to support such a great organization; they’ve been helping the elders of our community for over 50 years.”
