ALACHUA COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – A 51-year-old High Springs man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday after his vehicle struck a deer on SR 45 near NW 32nd Ave. in Newberry, according to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

FHP says that the incident happened when the driver was traveling south on SR 45. After colliding with the deer, the vehicle veered off the roadway onto a grass shoulder, where it overturned and struck a utility pole.

Officials indicate that the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

FHP is continuing to investigate the incident. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
