OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The Ocala/Marion County Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) has announced the development of an Active Transportation Plan.

This initiative aims to enhance the county’s non-motorized transportation network, promoting healthier lifestyles and sustainable transportation options.

“We need YOUR input!” the organization emphasizes in a Facebook post.

Recognizing Marion County’s abundance of natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities, the TPO seeks to leverage existing assets and identify areas for improvement.

“Don’t miss your chance to help shape the future of walking, biking, and riding in our community,” says Ocala Mayor Ben Marciano, sharing the TPO’s message in his own Facebook post.  “The Ocala Marion TPO’s Active Transportation Plan is underway, and we’re gathering public input to create a safer, more connected transportation system.”

The Active Transportation Plan will provide a comprehensive framework for enhancing biking, walking, and rolling infrastructure, connecting residents and visitors to essential destinations.

Key components of the plan include:

  • Network Assessment: A thorough evaluation of the current non-motorized transportation network, including sidewalks, bike lanes, and trails.
  • Community Input: Public engagement to gather input from residents and stakeholders on their transportation needs and preferences.
  • Economic Analysis: Assessing the potential economic benefits of increased active transportation, such as reduced healthcare costs and increased tourism revenue.
  • Project Prioritization: Identifying and prioritizing projects to improve the county’s active transportation network, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.

The TPO asks that Marion County residents participate in its Active Transportation Plan survey and review its map.

By investing in active transportation, Marion County can create a more livable, sustainable, and thriving community. The TPO stresses its commitment to working with local partners to implement the recommendations of the Active Transportation Plan and build a future where active transportation is a preferred choice for residents and visitors alike.
