MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – A special election to fill the vacant seat in Florida’s 6th Congressional District will take place on Jan. 28, 2025.

The seat was left open following Michael Waltz’s expected resignation to serve as national security advisor in Donald Trump’s second presidential term.

The election will feature Democratic and Republican primaries to determine the candidates advancing to the general election on April 1, 2025. Democratic contenders include Ges Selmont and Joshua Weil, while Republican voters will choose among Aaron Baker, Randy Fine, and Ehsan Joarder.

In Marion County, early voting runs from Saturday, Jan. 18, through Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Election Day polling hours on Jan. 28 will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
