MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) — A 17-year-old has been arrested after deputies say he stole a vehicle from a local church earlier this month.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), an Infiniti QX4 was reported stolen from Prince of Peace Church on June 1. A few days later, Corporal Arias located the SUV stuck in the sand near the 300 block of Oak Track Trail. The vehicle was still in drive, and fresh shoeprints were visible nearby.
After further investigation, deputies identified Jeremy Pitts, 17, as the suspect. MCSO says Pitts was contacted along with a parent and later admitted to taking the vehicle, stating he saw the keys on the seat and noticed it was unlocked.
Pitts was arrested and transported to jail.
