MARION COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – The Marion County Board of County Commissioners has officially proclaimed Dec. 1, 2025, as Rosa Parks Day throughout Marion County. The proclamation honors the legacy of Ms. Rosa Parks and her pivotal role in advancing civil rights in the United States.

The proclamation was passed at the county commission’s Nov. 18 meeting, recognizing the profound impact of Ms. Parks’ quiet act of defiance 70 years ago.

A defining moment in history

On Dec. 1, 1955, Ms. Parks courageously refused to surrender her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. This singular act of peaceful resistance sparked a movement and became a defining moment in American civil rights history.
