MARION COUNTY, FL (352today) – At their Dec. 2, 2025, county commission meeting, the Marion County Board of County Commissioners celebrated several organizations making a meaningful impact in the community.

The Salvation Army was honored as the board proclaimed December 2025 as “Red Kettle Month,” recognizing decades of compassionate service to residents in need. The proclamation highlighted the vital work of volunteers, donors, and staff during the annual Red Kettle Campaign, which provides emergency assistance, shelter, food programs, and life-changing support to neighbors across Marion County. Major Jason Smith of The Salvation Army said, “We are so grateful for Marion County and how they help us be able to provide Christmas for local children in need.”

Fakhoury Medical and Chiropractic Center received a certificate of recognition in honor of its 40th anniversary. Founded by Dr. Riadh Fakhoury, the Center has provided patient-centered care, wellness services, and community education for four decades. Chairman Carl Zalak commented, “We are so thankful for the Fakhoury team and the amazing services they have provided to our community.” The recognition also celebrated the Center’s charitable efforts, mentorship, and civic engagement that have strengthened the health and well-being of Marion County residents.

WESH 2’s Share Your Christmas food drive was recognized as the county commission proclaimed Dec. 12, 2025, as “Share Your Christmas Day.” Established in 1986, the annual campaign has mobilized the community to support families facing food insecurity, raising over $10 million and collecting more than 5 million pounds of food in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. The proclamation emphasized that all donations collected within Marion County remain local, helping neighbors in need during the holiday season and beyond.

The county commission applauds the generosity, dedication, and impact of these organizations, which continue to strengthen the Marion County community through service, compassion, and support for our neighbors in need.
