OCALA, FL (352today.com) – The Ocala Police Department (OPD) responded to two separate accidents Friday involving motorcycles.

Both ended with the motorcycle riders dead.

The first happened on Southeast 17th Street, causing the road to be blocked from SE 11th Avenue to SE 16th Avenue. In this case, a 20-year-old motorcycle rider died from his injuries.

The second happened about an hour later near the 4700 block of Southwest 20th Street. Police say a 29-year-old motorcyclist died in this wreck.

Police did not release the names of either motorcyclist. Both wrecks involved collisions with other vehicles. Police did not indicate fault in either case.

OPD expressed sympathy to the families of the riders in their posts on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Following the accidents, Ocala Fire Rescue (OFR) department posted safety reminders on its Facebook page.

“We ask that you remain vigilant on the road, maintaining active awareness of your surroundings, and always check twice for motorcycles that may be riding by,” the post stated.

Other tips included:

  • Stay Back
    • Motorcyclists are not protected by the frame of a car, which increases the risk of serious injury or fatality when involved in a collision.
    • Always maintain a larger distance than you would with traditional vehicles between your vehicle and a motorcycle.
  • Check Twice for Motorcycles
    • We are used to watching out for cars, but given the speed, agility, and size of motorcycles they can be easily missed.
  • Be Aware
    • Distracted driving is hazardous and avoidable.
    • Never attempt to multitask while driving.
    • Maintain your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road at all times.
