MCINTOSH, FL (352today.com) – The local organization Friends of McIntosh, which mounts the cherished McIntosh 1890s Festival every year, announced on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, that it had collectively decided to cancel the annual tradition.

“It is with a heavy heart that we must share that at the Friends of McIntosh’s January 2026 meeting, the organization chose to discontinue hosting the McIntosh 1890s festival,” read an announcement posted to social media.

The announcement cited increased costs, declining attendance and changing demographics within the membership of the Friends of McIntosh as reasons for the discontinuation.

One of the 352’s longest running and historically well-supported events, the McIntosh 1890s Festival celebrated its 50th year back in 2023. The festival typically occurred during the first weekend in November, attracting history buffs from all over.

“The Friends of McIntosh will continue to focus on the community,” the announcement read. “We will carry on with our programs including the food bank, warm clothing, shoes and holiday gifts for children in need, as well as scholarships, community events, and maintenance of historic buildings.”
