CITRUS COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – Citrus County Emergency Management has announced the institution of a mandatory burn ban for unincorporated Citrus County.
The ban is immediate, and will last until further notice.
According to an announcement by Citrus County Fire Rescue, “THIS IS NOT AN APRIL FOOLS JOKE! In accordance with Citrus County Code, a burn ban is now in effect after the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) reached 502 on March 31.
While there is a chance for some rain in the coming days, conditions across Citrus County remain dry and vegetation is highly susceptible to ignition. Even with occasional showers, it takes sustained rainfall to reduce wildfire risk.
According to the National Weather Service, higher humidity levels may occur this week, but fire danger is not determined by one factor alone. Wind, temperature, and dry fuels continue to create a significant wildfire risk.”
What’s prohibited:
- Yard debris burning
- Campfires and bonfires
- Burning trash or debris
- Fireworks and flares
What’s allowed:
- Outdoor cooking using grills or approved equipment
- Activities specifically authorized by the Florida Forest Service
