UMATILLA, FL (352today.com) – A young boy visiting the area and fishing with his father was bitten by an Alligator at Nelson’s Outdoor Resort in Umatilla over the weekend.
The juvenile, whose name was not reported, was bitten on the hand while fishing the Ocklawaha River on Saturday, June 27, 2026. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) located and killed a gator more than eight-and-a-half feet long that was presumed to have bitten the boy.
The bite was one of three alligator “attacks” to happen in Central Florida in the last week.
On Sunday, a 31-year-old woman was swimming in the Econlockhatchee River in Seminole County when an alligator reportedly bit both of her arms. She died in the hospital as a result of her injuries.
And a 19-year-old man was snorkeling in the Rainbow River in the Dunnellon area on the previous Sunday, June 21, when he was bitten, precipitating the temporary closure of Rainbow Springs State Park and portions of the river. The man was treated at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville and released.
