OCALA, FL (352today.com) – Habitat for Humanity of Marion County’s Ocala Strawberry Festival is celebrating its 10th year on Saturday, March 2, at the McPherson Government Complex from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Arrive early so that you can take the entire day to soak in the festivities. Getting there early will also help you secure a good parking spot with the assistance of volunteers from the Marion Therapeutic Riding Association (MTRA). The $5 parking fee helps support MTRA.

With over 230 different vendors, a bigger-than-ever car show featuring cool vehicles, BMX shows, and a pie-eating contest, there’s something for everyone. Musical performances include the Petty Experience Band and Chris Patti, a Frank Sinatra tribute artist.

The festival offers visitors an opportunity to purchase fresh strawberries. The pre-sale price for a flat is $20 each.  You can reserve your flat and pick it up on Friday, March 1, from the white tent at the McPherson complex. The flats sell out quickly during the festival, so it’s advisable to reserve yours.

“They’re from Plant City,” said Joanne Black, development director for Habitat for Humanity of Marion County. “We actually get with a farmer down in Plant City.”

You can also indulge in a variety of strawberry treats, including pies, strawberry shortcakes and more.

A fun feature of the festival is the dedicated kid’s zone which includes a petting zoo. Kids and adults alike are invited to learn about different animals in a hands-on setting.

Your participation in the festival plays a key role in furthering Habitat for Humanity’s mission of building a new home each year known as the “Strawberry House.”  The proceeds from the festival directly support the construction of affordable housing for low-income families.
