OCALA, FL (352today.com) — Law enforcement officers and Special Olympics athletes are currently making their way through Marion County as part of Florida’s annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, with the local leg stretching from near The Villages to the World Equestrian Center.
In Ocala, the run began at the Publix Super Market at Pearl Britain Plaza, located at 2655 NE 35th Street. Runners are now passing through city limits, and temporary road closures are in effect to ensure safety along the route.

“We are thrilled to take part in this event and show our support for Special Olympics athletes worldwide,” the Ocala Police Department (OPD) said in a statement.
The Torch Run is part of a global movement to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics. Since its start, it has generated over $415 million worldwide. Residents are encouraged to cheer on runners and honk in support as they pass.
