OCALA, FL (352today.com) – These days, there are plenty of ways to discard prescription medications that are expired or no longer taken.
Libraries around the community offer free disposal bags that render the pills impotent before they’re discarded in the trash. Multiple agencies across the 352 and beyond will accept prescription meds for destruction on a regular schedule, or whenever they’re open.
But if you’ve got a fairly large stash of old meds that you’re kind of embarrassed or leery about walking into a facility with for disposal, the Drug Enforcement Agency still holds an annual Drug Take Back Day, and most law enforcement agencies participate. The kicker here is that disposal is free and anonymous—no questions asked.
This year’s Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, October 24, 2026, and the Ocala Police Department is doing its part.
Simply bring any and all prescription medications you wish to dispose of safely and properly (since the fish are apparently all full up on tranquilizers and antidepressants from people flushing them) to OPD headquarters at 402 S. Pine Ave., Ocala, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. next Saturday, and they will be taken care of.
