ALACHUA COUNTY, FL (352today.com) – A main road for some Alachua County commuters to get to and from Gainesville is closed indefinitely.
In a Facebook post, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) says the Hatchet Creek Bridge on State Road 26 (SR 26) is shut down due to flooding and damage from Hurricane Debby.
The closure is near the Newnans Lake Conservation Area.
ACSO says there’s no timeline for when the bridge and road will reopen.

This will add a good bit of time to the commute for people who live in Melrose and points east.
The Melrose Fire Department says Alachua County Emergency Management has deemed the bridge to be in a state of “critical failure.”
Traffic is being directed to either County Road 234 down to Southeast Hawthorne Road or to U.S. 301 to Southeast Hawthorne Road.
Traffic west of the bridge is being directed to turn around and either go back to Southeast 43rd Street to Southeast Hawthorne Road or to Northeast Waldo Road.
352today will provide updates on the status of the road and plans to reopen it. You can check Florida 511 for real-time traffic updates in the area.
